Bajío Sunglasses wants to give back to the nurseries of the oceans through its Shop for the Shallows program through the 2023 holiday season. According to Bajío Sunglasses, shallows are the nurseries of the oceans and are known as “bajíos” in Spanish.

“Our goal is to clean, plant and protect these shallows by partnering with those who share our mission,” the company says.

Customers who buy a pair of sunglasses from Bajío Sunglasses can choose from one of three causes to give back to when they check out, including ocean trash removal, mangrove planting or oyster planting. Customers who purchase these sunglasses also receive a free Camp Cup with original artwork by Casey Anderson, Bajío Sunglasses’ resident tattoo artist. There are three Camp Cup options, including the 4Ocean Loggerhead sea turtle camp mug, Mang squirrel tree frog camp mug and Toadfish bull shark camp mug.

“If someone buys a pair of Bajío sunglasses on our website, then Bajío will either pull a pound of trash, plant oysters or plant a mangrove. And the customer will receive a free camp cup with original art by Casey Anderson,” the company says.

According to Bajío Sunglasses, each mug supports one of the three different causes to help the shallows. 4Ocean is a global ocean cleanup company that is responsible for recovering millions of pounds of plastic from the world’s oceans, rivers and coastlines. 4Ocean workers pull one pound of trash for every 4Ocean product sold.

Mang’s mission is to propagate, grow and plant a mangrove in the name of its supporters. According to Bajío Sunglasses, mangroves improve water quality and provide life for thousands of marine species, stabilize coasts and trap carbon.

Toadfish aims to clean coastal waters by planting oyster reefs in protected coastal areas throughout the U.S. A single oyster filters up to 50 gallons of coastal water per day, removing toxins from runoff and creating a habitat where hundreds of species can thrive.

Bajío Sunglasses has been in business since 2021, offering performance sunglasses primarily for the fishing market as well as for surfers, boaters and other water enthusiasts. Bajío Sunglasses’ lenses are designed to filter blue light, which makes them extremely clear. The company says its products are sustainably made — its frames are made from plant-based resins and cases are made from cactus leather. The sunglasses are packaged in recycled cardboard as well.
