The Wish Gift Co., Sandwich, Massachusetts, is known for carrying products made by independent, small makers, often local to the Cape Cod region. The items range from bath and body products, home decor, children and baby items, stationary and some specialty food items. The store helps customers create custom gift boxes with the thoughtful items it carries.
“I try to have a variety of items in the store so people can pick out the items they want to arrange in a gift box,” explains owner Penny Sampson. The specialty food products the store carries are a popular addition to the many gift boxes it builds for customers’ special occasions.
Food offerings include regional favorites like Chequessett Chocolates, McCreaf Caramels and Snowy Owl Coffee Roasters gourmet coffee. Sampson will soon be introducing Lighthouse Keepers jams and hot sauces.
“Those are good items for gift boxes people like to put together,” says Sampson.
Rockstar Reef’s sea glass candy is the store’s number one selling food product. “The sea glass candy is authentic looking and people are really attracted to that,” she says.
The candy also comes in colorful packaging and several different color combos to fit with any party theme.
The food products are usually displayed with other merchandise in a section with locally made products. Sampson highlights that aspect of the products, she says because “people are always looking for anything locally made or made by small makers.”
Her food offerings are a low price point, high volume offering. “I think it brings people to the shop. We are always restocking those items. It is an easy purchase for a gift, the packaging is amazing for all these companies so that is visually an easy sell.”
