Kenyan based company to turn flip flop pollution into 200 replicas of endangered and vulnerable species.

May 19, 2021

Ocean Sole has created The SoleMate Project, an initiative to make large-scale replicas of over 200 vulnerable and endangered species from recycled flip flops collected from waterways and beaches in Kenya.

This new wildlife art project brings awareness to the plight of the Earth’s vulnerable and endangered species. Over the last few years, the endangered species list has increased rapidly due to many factors including pollution, human intervention, illegal poaching, and habitat loss due to population growth and climate changes.

To raise awareness about endangered species, Ocean Sole is making large-scale replicas of endangered species from recycled flip flops, including this sea turtle.

Their vision is that wildlife art is showcased in lobbies, airport corridors, zoos, hospitals, homes, public parks, and other unique locations around the world to bring attention and raise critically needed funds for wildlife conservation efforts.

On Endangered Species Day, Friday, May 21, Ocean Sole will launch the first collection of large-scale endangered species: a rhino, jaguar, panda, giraffe, polar bear, gorilla, sea turtle and pangolin.

Ocean Sole will donate 50% of their profits from this Wildlife SoleMate collection to conservation parties of each species.

The Ocean Sole family of enterprises includes a U.S.-based non-profit (501c3) that sells wildlife art and a Kenyan-based social enterprise of artisans. Ocean Sole’s artisans have been making wildlife art in Kenya for the last decade.
