The Maryland-based boutique known for coastal jewelry, gifts and custom pieces prepares for a January 2026 opening at Kent Island’s Bay Manor Shops.

The build-out is underway and plans to expand product categories and host events are assail at The Ophiuroidea in Maryland. In January 2026 the storefront will move 5 miles northeast from its Grasonville shop to Kent Island — a waterfront wedding destination and tourist draw known for its yacht club and historic neighborhoods.

Known to locals as The O, Kim Hannon’s coastal boutique — named after the delicate brittle star found in tidal waters — first opened in 2009 in Saint Michaels and located to its existing spot six years ago.
When the property was purchased, Hannon needed to find real estate and happened upon an ideal coastal retreat in Kent Island’s Bay Manor Shops, a charming mixed-use property with Chesapeake views from the building’s shared rooftop patio.

“We’re really excited about the location near a marina and new hotel that is being built, so there is lots of activity and excitement for this new space,” says Hannon, amid construction to complete the shop’s interior in November and December with plans to open doors after the new year.

The existing O will remain open in Grasonville through Christmas.

Hannon will gain another 500 square feet of space in the new location, allowing for more displays, product categories including a men’s line, and storage for inventory. The O currently offers a selection and range of price points in jewelry and gifts, and Hannon sees these departments expanding.

Weddings — favors, gifts, practical goodies — are already a high-sales category for The O, and Hannon expects an increase with the Kent Island location and is planning accordingly. “It’s one of the top places to get married in Maryland,” she points out.

Exactly what the product mix will look like is TBD. Hannon will maintain a mix of recognized brands, local merchandise and custom pieces including name-drop gifts and apparel.

For now, she’s spreading the word about the move, and its coming-soon storefront with The O emblazoned on a new home and next chapter for the boutique. Hannon says, “I’m excited about locals and new guests finding us and about holding after-hours events now that we’ll have more space.”
