Made by the founders of Tiki Toss, the new brand offers a variety of hook-and-ring and other backyard games.

For almost 15 years, Tiki Toss has offered popular hook-and-ring games to retailers across the United States. This winter, Founders Kyle McGetrick and Amy Corey have launched a new brand, Island Time Sports, with a fresh perspective on the original Tiki Toss concepts.

Island Time Sports is releasing several editions of its popular hook-and-ring games for the spring season, with backboards made of acacia wood and rubber wood, inlaid with a variety of woods and epoxy resin colors, according to McGetrick. The brand will offer a secondary launch in the late spring that includes a golf-themed game, a two-player tabletop version of the hook-and-ring game and more. The brand will continue to release new products throughout the year, he adds.

The product line incorporates island themes, colors and vibes. All products are packaged using recyclable corrugated packaging.

“Our products remind people of being on vacation. Our goal is to make people happy,” says McGetrick.

The first Tiki Toss product launched about 14 years ago after McGetrick learned to play the game while living in the Caribbean for a year.

“People just loved it,” McGetrick recalls. “We were the first company to bring this play pattern to market in 2011 and we were not sure what to expect. We launched at Surf Expo and took orders for 25 stores, with only a prototype. We didn’t even have inventory, but we were sure to fill the orders. We made over a thousand units in the garage, at a financial loss, before we were able to line up proper manufacturing.”

The brand’s popularity continued to grow for over a decade. McGetrick shares that he and his partner sold to an aggregator firm in 2021— McGetrick and his team maintained the wholesale distribution as a separate company while the aggregator managed online sales for the brand. He says the aggregator struggled and eventually filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2024.

“It wasn’t a great story. We thought we had a nice future lined up in that partnership, but lesson learned,” says McGetrick. “We’re very excited to be back with a fresh lifestyle brand.”

He adds that they still love the genre and play pattern and will continue to innovate under the new brand, Island Time Sports. The new line was scheduled to shipping March 1.

McGetrick adds that Island Time Sports will provide freestanding displays with LCD video screens for their retail partners, showcasing gameplay and lifestyle. The brand will also continue its history of open communication and support for retailers.

“We’re a family business, easy to talk to,” he says. “We’re here to help our partners be successful. We also love feedback.”
