Calypso’s Robyn Dixon is preparing to bring Laguna Lifestyle to South Padre Island as another retail concept — but it won’t simply be a second Calypso. The new store will center on athletic and athleisure apparel for men and women, inspired in part by what Dixon has learned from performance-driven brands at Calypso.
“Everyone wants to look like they are active,” she says with a laugh. “Why not give them something that is comfortable and looks sporty and still has a level of fashion to it?”
The location reinforced the concept. Laguna Lifestyle will sit next to a new 8,000-square-foot gym, giving Dixon an opportunity to create a store around the intersection of fashion and function.
Home goods will add another dimension, with coastal bed and bath merchandise intended to fill a gap left when Tuesday Morning closed on the island. The store will also house Calypso’s “last chance” merchandise — clearance pieces presented with the same attention to display as full-price goods. The strategy creates a reason for Calypso customers to visit the new store while allowing Laguna Lifestyle to develop its own identity.
The new venture follows continued growth at Calypso, where Robyn says revenue increased 13% last year. Laguna Lifestyle is expected to open in late 2026, depending on construction. |
