Mrs. Mitchell’s Gifts timeline

  • 1966 - George and Freda Mitchell open Mrs. Mitchell’s Country Gift Shoppe in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire.
  • 1970s - George and Freda’s son Frank and his wife Evelyn begin taking over full-time at the shop.
  • 1984 - George and Freda retire.
  • 1991 - Mrs. Mitchell’s opens Yarmouth, Massachusetts, store.
  • 1994 - Evelyn passes away after a long battle with cancer.
  • 1997 - George passes away.
  • 1998 - Freda passes away; Two of George and Freda’s six grandchildren, Lynn and Bob, purchase the stores from their father Frank.
  • 2002 - Frank passes away; Mrs. Mitchell’s relocates from Yarmouth to Main Street in Hyannis, Massachusetts, becoming Mrs. Mitchell’s on Main.
  • 2009 - The Mitchells open a second store on Main Street in Hyannis called Mrs. M’s Summer House.
  • 2010 - Fire destroys the original Mrs. Mitchell’s Gifts in Hampton Beach.
  • 2011 - Mrs. Mitchell’s Gifts reopens in a new building on the same spot in Hampton Beach.
  • 2016 - Mrs. Mitchell’s Gifts celebrates its 50th Anniversary.
  • 2017 - Mrs. M’s Summer House purchases a building and relocates across the street to 550 Main Street.
